who leave the scene of the crime. the law changes a hit and run leaving injuries from a misdemeanor to a felony prior to october, hit- and-run drivers who left the scene, could only face a misdemeanor. reno police are still searching for the driver in one of the most recent incidents: the driver of a new light colored pickup hit-and-killed a man legally walking across the street at fourth and spokane. the incident happened early saturday morning. in carson city, 37-year old juan pablo rios is facing a felony for leaving the scene of an accident involving death from last week. "it is not worth your livelihood and your freedom if you leave the scene of an accident. own up. it gives closure to families when we can identify all the people involved in the accident, and get their side of the story as well " if a person is arrested in the future, they could face misdemeanor charges because the

the law has only been in effect for four months. # a new proposal could change how much you can drink before you choose to drive home. kolo 8 news now's catherine van joins us in the studio. cat-- ?how exactly could this proposal change the law? the national transportation safety board is asking states to lower the legal limit from point-zero-eight to point-zero-five percent. so those couple of glasses at dinner could land you in jail if this proposal is adopted. blowing a point-zero- five...is about the equivalent to one drink for a woman who weighs less than 120 pounds... and about two drinks for a 160 pound man. looking at alcohol servings... a 12 ounce beer.... a glass of wine... or a shot is about a point zero two difference....so having all three can easily put you over the limit and under arrest. but lowering the limit... might not make a big difference. washoe county says... 70 percent or more of deadly accidents caused by drunk drivers blowing a point-one-five. bill: .05 at that point they're not as impaired as a .08 so they are harder to detect because they

someone with a higher alcohol concentration would be at. if states adopt it... it could mean more funding for freeways. medications or drugs will not change your blood alcohol content ...but if you mix them with alcohol... it could affect your ability to drive. sarah? a reno man was found guilty for driving under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana. he was then involved in a hit and run which severely injured one man. according to investigators, 28-year-old daniel wilson smoked marijuana and drank alcohol before last august's hit and run. blood tests showed wilson had a blood alcohol level of point one-one-seven. he also had five times the legal limit of marijuana in his system. wilson faces up to 40 years in prison. sentencing will be in march. ### south lake tahoe police, are releasing new sketches of two men they believe were

shooting over the weekend. 40-year-old dennis wright junior was shot saturday night in the parking lot of the beverly lodge. according to police, wright and his girlfriend were trying to sell 1-hundred pounds of marijuana, to the two men you see on your screen. the men tried to rob wright. a struggle followed, and shots were fired. wright was shot several times and died at a local hospital. police believe the suspects drove off in a tan colored chrysler concorde. if you know anything, call south lake tahoe police at 530-542-6100. ### president obama spoke about bias against his remarks came mosque baltimore. but here in northern were listening and applauding. the president told a society of baltimore that an attack on one all. an american mosque; and comes at a time when rhetoric on the campaign trail has

american muslims. the president of the northern nevada muslim community says he was proud of the president for standing with american muslims. but it was the president's remarks about the impact of that backlash on younger members of his community which mattered most. elfass: "i'm going to search for that clip and i'm going to show it over and over to my children who ask me 'are we not welcome here anymore?' 'are we second class citizens?' and i'm going to repeat this and show them that it's not me saying it anymore, the president of the country saying it." doctor elfass says he expects others in his community to do the same. he added although he would have wished the president's visit to a mosque would have come sooner, he was humbled and honored that it had happened at all. why are people from around the world in reno this week? because they have big olympic goals-- and right now this is the place to prepare. the event happening here, that can help their

matches last just matches last just minutes but the glory can last forever. athletes from all over the world are competing this week at the reno-sparks convention center... in the u-s open taekwondo thai-kwon-doe championships. points come fast... as the electronic chest protector will score body shots-- at one point per hit. and, they can also score three points for a head shot. now-- when an athlete spins prior to a kick-- they will get bonus points. one athlete has already earned a trip to the olympics in brazil--- representing the u-s-a. trt:09 jackie galloway, olympic athlete, "i couldn't imagine on how it is going to feel but i am incredibly proud to be able to have usa on my back and to represent my country on that stage." jackie galloway is scheduled to fight on friday. the tournament runs through sunday and tickets start at 10 dollars. if you'd like more information on the championships... go to our website at kolo tv dot com and click on the hot topics icon. ### starting today, the bellvue road bridge in washoe valley will be closed temporarily. the overpass and ramps will be closed for about three months for earthquake retrofitting.

department of transportation's project to seismically retrofit older bridges along interstate 580. if you take the bridge to work, you'll be detoured to bowers mansion road. interstate traffic can still travel along i-580. we'll soon see billboards across the state designed by a wooster high school student. allyssa corpus, won a statewide contest by the nevada department of public safety--- drawing this picture. high school students through-out the state-- were asked to design an original billboard for a campaign-- called "zero teen fatalities." ### it's national signing day.... and a busy day for a bunch of local high schools and one of the players signed-- to stay home and play for the wolf pack. look, i know you're a cow and all. and you may not know what i'm talking about,
